The Abbey Gateway Orchestra is a St Albans’ based amateur chamber orchestra. We are very friendly and inclusive and welcome players of all abilities, ages and backgrounds.
We do not hold our own formal concerts but instead seek out interesting and unusual opportunities to perform at. Past events have included ‘busking’ at St Pancras Station, accompanying a children’s ballet school at a local concert, performing A Level students’ original compositions, a virtual reality evening and a film music day.
Regular events also include:
- An annual conductors’ workshop, inviting guest conductors to have a go at conducting a piece with the orchestra.
- Concerto evenings, giving members the opportunity to play a concerto with the orchestra.
- Chamber music evenings.
- Accompanying a local carol concert.
- Performing original compositions composed by members of the orchestra and their acquaintances.
